What is a Tek screw?

A Tek screw is a self-drilling fastener with a drill-bit-shaped tip that eliminates pre-drilling. Tek screws drill their own pilot hole through metal as they are driven, making them faster than standard screws for metal applications.

Can I use wood to metal screws without pre-drilling?

Yes. Reamer-Tek wood to metal screws have a self-drilling tip designed to penetrate both wood and thin to medium steel without pre-drilling. For steel thicker than 1/4 inch, pre-drilling is recommended for best results.

What drive do wood to metal Tek screws use?

Our wood to metal Tek screws use a Torx star drive (T-25 or T-30 depending on size). The Torx drive provides the cam-out resistance needed when applying the high torque required to drill through steel.

What is the Reamer-Tek tip design?

The Reamer-Tek tip combines a drill point for penetrating steel with a reaming section that clears material as the screw enters, reducing driving torque and preventing the wood from splitting above the steel layer.

What gauge steel can wood to metal Tek screws penetrate?

Reamer-Tek screws are designed for light to medium gauge steel from 12 gauge to 3/16 inch thick. For heavier steel, a larger drill-point Tek screw or pre-drilling is required.

What length wood to metal screw do I need?

The screw should be long enough to pass fully through the wood layer and penetrate the steel by at least 3 full threads. Measure the wood thickness and add 1/2 inch for steel engagement when selecting screw length.

Can wood to metal Tek screws be removed and reinstalled?

Tek screws can be backed out and reinstalled in the same hole a limited number of times before the threads lose grip in the thin steel. For connections that require frequent disassembly, use through-bolts instead.

Are these screws suitable for flatbed trailers?

Yes. Reamer-Tek wood to metal screws are specifically designed for flatbed trailer decking applications, attaching hardwood or softwood deck boards to steel cross members and frame rails.

What torx bit size do I use for wood to metal Tek screws?

The required Torx size depends on the screw diameter. T-25 is common for smaller Tek screws; T-30 is used for larger diameters. Check the product specification for the exact bit size required.

Can wood to metal screws be used in outdoor applications?

Yes, provided they have a corrosion-resistant coating appropriate for the environment. Check the product specification for coating type and outdoor suitability, especially for applications in wet or coastal conditions.

Our wood to metal screws feature a patented Reamer-Tek self-drilling tip that bores through wood and drills into steel in one operation with no pre-drilling required. The torx star drive handles the high torque needed to drive a screw through combined wood and steel material without cam-out. Common applications include flatbed trailer decking and steel-frame construction.

Length of Screw Does NOT Represent the Usable Length of Thread / Thickness of Wood - See Installation Instructions or Chart Below for Individual Screw Usage

Reamer Tek Wood to Metal Wood Screws - Consult Chart For Torx Bit Size (Not Included). Install screws at Medium speed (2,000 RPM) Faster speed may damage drill tip. Pre-Drilling During Installation is Normally Not Necessary, However You May need to Pre-Drill if using Tempered Steel or Installing into a Welded Seam.
